Boerne High visited Davenport on Tuesday for a district baseball game and the Greyhounds took a close one over the Wolves, 5-3.
BHS improves to 3-0 in district and is 21-2 overall. The Greyhounds host Davenport on Friday to close out the series.
In Tuesday’s game, the Hounds sprinted out of the gate with 4-0 lead by the end of the second frame.
In the first, Kalob Sanchez and Rashawn Galloway hit back-to-back doubles, with Galloway’s two-bagger bringing in Sanchez for the 1-0 lead.
In the second inning, Sanchez legged out another double to bring in Connor Shill. Galloway walked and Riley Pechacek singled to load the bases.
Hutson Hendrix singled to right center and pushed in Sanchez and Galloway’s courtesy runner Landon Lestourgeon and moved Pechacek to third.
Hendrix was tagged out on the base paths, but the damage was done and Boerne was up 4-0.
In the third, Davenport put together a two-out rally and cut the lead to one after the Wolves used a single, an error and two doubles to make it 4-3 before the Hounds could get out of the inning.
Boerne answered with a two-out rally in the fifth and used walks to Dylan Perez and Tyler Garritano to put two runners on. Perez later scored on a passed ball and the Hounds had given themselves some breathing room at 5-3.
In its final three at bats, Davenport never really threatened and only put on one base runner in the fifth and sixth via walks but neither made it past first base. In the seventh, the Wolves went down in order.
The Hounds finished with 7 hits in the game, including 2 doubles from Kalob Sanchez who scored twice and picked up an RBI, while Rashawn Galloway also doubled and drove in a run.
Riley Pechacek hit 2 singles, Hutson Hendrix brought in 2 runs with his single, Dylan Perez walked twice, singled and scored, while Connor Shill and Landon Lestourgeon both crossed home plate once.
Xander Cloudy went 4 innings on the hill and picked up the win. He gave up 5 hits, fanned 2 and walked 1. Lestourgeon threw an inning and didn’t give up hit, while striking out 1 and Sanchez threw the final two frames and earned the save after he sat down 4, walked 1 and didn’t give up a hit.
