St. John Lutheran Church Pastor Robert Weber’s will have his two dogs, Kenobi the golden retriever and Rebel the vizsla, at the church Sunday for the denomination ‘s firstever Animal Blessing ceremony.

Weber said the animal blessing will begin at 2 p. m. Sunday, allowing congregants to leave once the 11 a.m. service is finished, enjoy a bite to eat and then return with the animals they choose to have blessed that afternoon.

Weber said he expects a fair share of dogs, cats, even hamsters.

“We will have little prayer tags for you to put on your furry friends’ collars,” the church’s Facebook page stated.

“We may have goats, sheep, horses and even longhorn, with the number of people who have ranches and such,” Weber said.

The event is open to the public to bring their pet — or animal — to be blessed at St. John Lutheran, 315 Rosewood Ave.
