BOERNE — Current and past District 5840 Governors joined with more than 75 people last month to celebrate the impact of past Centennial Governor, John Peterson.
Peterson joined the Rotary Club of Boerne in 1994 and was the Rotarian of the Year in 1997. He is a Paul Harris Fellow+8, a member of the Bequest Society and a Benefactor.
He has served as club president, youth services zone coordinator, and club foundation chair for nine years, between 2012-2024.
On a district level, Petersion has served as district foundation chair, 2005-2011; district grants subcommittee chair; district annual fund subcommittee chair; district youth services chair; District RI Convention promotion chair and most notably, “Centennial” District Governor in 2004-2005.
Peterson exemplifies the Rotary motto, “Service Above Self” in every area of his life. He has served the country as a Naval commander, our youth through the Boy Scouts-Eagle Scouts, and served his church through Knights of Columbus.
For years students of Boerne ISD have known and loved him as “Papa John” through his work with the Early Act Knighting Program.
Many of those in attendance spoke publicly of his encouragement of them, his being a standard bearer, his constant “behind the scenes” work in this community, his leadership and his role modeling.
