PEC accepting applicants for ‘25 Youth Tour program

PEC accepting applicants for ‘25 Youth Tour program

Since 1996, Pedernales Electric Cooperative has selected students to attend the trip of a lifetime to Washington, D.C., and is preparing to do so again.

Participating in the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association’s Youth Tour program will represent the cooperative and join thousands of students from electric cooperatives across the U.S. in visiting historical sites, meeting elected officials and creating lifelong friendships.

PEC delegate Jake McAnelly attended Youth Tour in 2024. He encourages students to apply and says they have nothing to lose — and only opportunities and experiences to gain.

“This experience solidified my eagerness to participate in a future career in government,” McAnelly said. “It truly was an opportunity of a lifetime.”

“Year after year, we get to hear stories from past participants about how the trip inspired them, the memories these students made and in some cases — how it was life-changing,” said Mikayla Herron, PEC community outreach specialist.

“It’s a joy to provide this opportunity to our area youth and if we can play a small part in positively shaping America’s future we’re proud to support them,” Herron added.

Deadline to apply is Nov. 12, 2024. PEC delegates selected for Youth Tour will attend the trip June 15-22, 2025. While on the trip they will have the opportunity to: Tour historical sites, including Arlington National Cemetery, Capitol Hill, the Lincoln Memorial, Mount Vernon, the Smithsonian Institution and the U.S. Supreme Court, and meet local political representatives and learn more about local and national government.

To apply, students must have completed their high school sophomore, junior or senior year by June 2025, have a parent or legal guardian who is a PEC member in good standing; and be available to attend the trip June 15-22, 2025. Applicants must submit an online application, answer one short-answer question, provide a copy of their current resume and have an adult reference completed by 11:59 p.m. on Nov. 12.
