KCSO makes arrest after robbery, semi pursuit

Tractor trailer slams into Lockaway Storage Sunday, after spike strips flatten tires
KCSO makes arrest after robbery, semi pursuit

Kendall County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a Stafford, Texas, robbery suspect on Sunday after spiking tires on a tractor trailer that caused him to lose control and plow into a storage facility on the north side of Boerne.

At about 11:15 a.m. Sunday, the Kerr County Patrol Division responded to a call from the Kimble County Sheriff’s Office that the suspect in an armed robbery in Junction, Texas, had fled the scene minutes earlier in a white tractor trailer, traveling east on Interstate 10.

Kimble County provided a description of the suspect — later identified as Eric Lee Hudson, 42, of Stafford — as deputies found the suspect and truck eastbound on I-10 in Kerr County, approaching the Kendall County line.

Further investigation revealed that the tractor trailer had been stolen out of California.

Kerr County deputies initiated a stop of the truck near mile marker 523, according to information from the Kerr County Sheriff's Office. The driver initially pulled over before failing to respond to officer commands to exit the vehicle and resumed his attempt at escape on I-10 toward Kendall County.

Deputies from the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office successfully deployed spike strips at mile markers 530 and 532, deflating the truck's front tires. The suspect vehicle crossed the median near mile marker 535, continuing on the eastbound frontage road.

The driver lost control on a curve near mile marker 537 and at 12:03 p.m., veered into the Lockaway Storage facility at 39275 I-10 ion the access road.

Once the lone occupant was in custody, deputies recovered the cash drawer from the armed robbery, along with several clothing items consistent with the description given by Kimble County deputies.

Hudson was arrested and later booked into the Kerr County Jail on one count of evading arrest with a vehicle, and one count of theft $30,000-$150,000. Bond has yet to be set.

Kerr County Sheriff Larry L. Leitha praised the interaction between the three departments in apprehending the suspect.

“Our teams collaborated well with other departments to end this pursuit and bring a dangerous suspect to justice,” Leitha said. “Our close relationship with neighboring counties is bad news for criminals trying to evade any jurisdiction on the interstate.

“This kind of reckless behavior not only endangers the robbery victims and law enforcement but many innocent travelers in the path of an unpredictable suspect,” Leitha said. “The stakes are even higher considering the mass of a tractor-trailer compared to passenger vehicles.

“Our team did a great job intercepting and staying with this threat to public safety until the suspect was in custody.”
