Comfort High held off Lago Vista Monday night in a district softball game and won the defensive battle, 3-2, to kick off the second round of 25-3A action.
CHS improves to 16-4 overall and is 3-2 in district. They host Blanco on Friday, 6 p.m.
Comfort took the early lead in the first after Ashlyn Rodriguez singled and later scored on a Morgan Hansen double.
The Deer added 2 more runs in the fifth after Hansen tripled and brought in a run. Hansen later scored on a Madalynn Rodriguez single and Comfort was leading 3-0.
Lago Vista made it interesting by scoring 2 runs in the bottom of the sixth but that’s as close as they came. The Vikings put its first runner on in the seventh but the Comfort defense came up with three straight outs to end the game.
Hansen finished with a triple and a double, pushed in 2 runs and scored once; Madalynn Rodriguez hit 2 singles and drove in a run; Katie Haffner knocked out 2 singles, while Ashlynn Rodriguez and Tilly Avalos singled and scored.
Emma Wardlaw picked up the win and threw 95 pitches. She gave up 3 runs, 2 hits, fanned 13 and walked just 1.
