Ex-music school owner gets 40 years in child sex-misconduct case

BANDERA – A 47-year-old former owner of a Fair Oaks Ranch music school accused of multiple counts of sexual misconduct involving a child received a 40-year-prison sentence in state district court.

Gareth Goode, who was found guilty Sept. 26 on the charges by a Bandera County jury, was handed the sentence by 198th state District Court Judge Patrick.

Goode faced two counts of indecency with a child by sexual contact and one charge of aggravated sexual assault of a child, court documents indicate.

Maguire sentenced Goode to two 20-year terms for the two indecency with a child charges, to be served concurrently, and another 20-year term for the sexual assault charge, to be served consecutively.

That means Goode will begin serving a second 20-year term once he completes the initial sentence.

An accusation of sexual assault made to Bandera County sheriff’s deputies in June 2021 resulted in the charges against Goode, court records show.

According to an offense report, on June 8, 2021, Deputy John Broderick “was notified of a female wanting to make a report over the phone in reference to a past sexual assault of her daughter.”

Goode was picked up in Boerne Jan. 20, 2023, on a warrant issued by the 198th state District Court.

Ten days earlier, a Bandera County grand jury handed up an indictment naming Goode.

Assistant District Attorney Ben Rosenbach Tuesday said the jury deliberated for slightly more than an hour before rendering its verdict.

The judge handed down the maximum term in each case, Rosenbach said, with each charge carrying a two- to 20-year term.

This was not Goode’s first run-in with the law, but it was the first time facing a felony charge in Texas, according to court records.

He was convicted of two driving-while-intoxicated charges — one in 1999 and another in 2011 – in McLennan County and Bexar County, according to court documents.
