THE BOOKWORM
This year marked the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings at Normandy. The Boerne Book Festival has put together an esteemed group of authors to explore this subject at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5 at Main Plaza.
James Fenelon is an author from Austin. He served in the military for over a decade and is a graduate of the U.S. Army’s Airborne, Jumpmaster and Pathfinder schools.
Fenelon’s books on World War II are “Four Hours of Fury: The Untold Story of World War II’s Largest Airborne Invasion and the Final Push into Nazi Germany,” and “Angels Against the Sun: A WWII Saga of Grunts, Grits, and Brotherhood.”
“Bringing Davy Home” is a recent publication from Texas A&M Press by Fort Worth author Sherri Steward. Her book covers her father’s landing on Normandy and fighting his way across France, Belgium and Germany. It also recounts his experiences during the Korean War.
Steward is a charter member of the National World War II Museum in New Orleans and carried the banner for veteran families in the 70th Anniversary of D-Day Parade in Sainte-Mère-Eglise, France.
Tom Hutton is a retired neurologist who lives in Fredericksburg. His book from Texas Tech University Press is “Hitler’s Maladies and Their Impact on World War II: A Behavioral Neurologist’s View.”
The book covers the end of World War II, and how Hitler’s many health complications made him even more erratic and dangerous.
All the above books are cataloged in the Patrick Heath Public Library, if you would like to check them out.
The moderator for this panel discussion is beloved Boerne resident Tammie Jo Shults. She is an author in her own right, of the bestselling memoir “Nerves of Steel: How I Followed My Dreams, Earned My Wings, and Faced My Greatest Challenge.”
Shults moderated another panel discussion on World War II at the 2020 Boerne Book Festival, and we’re elated she’s joining us again. Don’t miss the chance to hear these four authors speak on this important and interesting topic.
