Save The Date: Fine arts mini workshops coming

CELEBRATING THE ARTS

Saturday Mini Workshops have an attraction for everyone. Held at The Classroom at The AgriCultural Museum and Arts Center, 102 City Park Road in Boerne, mini workshop attendees enjoy a few hours of camaraderie and creativity under the direction of talented artists in the area.

Supplies are included in the price, although class size is limited. Send inquiries to president@ hccarts.org if interested. Discounts available with a Hill County Council for the Arts membership.

On Oct. 5, “Just Go with the Flow” features Artist Julie Majek, acrylic pour painting.

The art form of mixing paint onto canvas, also known as fluid art, began in the 1930s by accident. Muralist David Alfaro Siqueiros accidentally spilled different colors of paint on top of each other and was intrigued by the way they mixed.

In the 2000s, pouring mediums for acrylic paints were developed, and now “pour art” has become a global trend. Come and “play” with Julie, an experienced educator and artist.

On Oct. 19, we have “Transition and Expression” with artist Pauly Tamez, abstract expressionism oil painting.

“I always wanted to paint abstract, but there was something inside me that just wouldn’t let me get away from creating a representational, realistic landscape,” Tamez said. “I had a hard time ... expressing myself in an abstract way. Then I left the workforce in December last year. I felt free, unencumbered, and there were no expectations of me.

“For the first time in my life, I was able to let go and express myself freely with color and form,” Tamez added.

On Nov. 9, we feature digital painting with Artist Susan Reich, using an iPad and Procreate.

Though Susan is an accomplished artist in watercolor, oil and acrylic, due to various medical reasons she can no longer stand at an easel to paint.

Her husband, seeing how she missed painting, bought her an iPad and a digital painting program called Procreate.

“Painting on a screen is much like painting on canvas or paper. You choose your medium, pick the brushes, pencil, or even charcoal to work with that medium,” Reich said. “Choose a color palette, and now it’s time to create using the same techniques.”

HCCArts develops and enriches an environment that supports and promotes awareness, appreciation, education and access to all the arts.
