Comfort’s Topper Sterling had a big night running with the football after the junior rushed for 317 yards on 36 carries and accounted for four touchdowns to help the Bobcats defeat Ingram, 34-29.
It’s only Comfort’s second game of the year after their first contest was called because of the weather.
The Bobcats are 1-1 and hit the road Friday. Comfort has been home for its first two games, not counting the weather game at Brackett. They’ll visit Johnson City Friday.
Sterling started with a bang and went 94 yards for the first score, but Ingram answered with two touchdowns from Kye Hightower and Cadyn Reed, on a pass from Logan Spalding, to close out the quarter with a 13-6 lead.
The Warriors added to their lead with the first score of the second quarter on a Hightower run and pulled ahead 20-6, but Sterling got the Bobcats back in the game with TD runs of 51 and 10 yards to tie it at 20.
Ingram’s Christian Carranza kicked a 27-yard field goal for the 23-20 advantage, but Sterling tacked on one more TD, his fourth of the half and contest, and Comfort went into the halftime with a 27-23 advantage.
Comfort’s Damian Neri added to the Bobcats’ lead with a 38-yard fumble recovery he took to the house on a scoop and score to put Comfort up, 34-23.
In the fourth, the Warriors cut into the lead with a 20-yard Spalding run, trailing 34-29 with 5:21 left.
Comfort was able to run out the clock and Sterling’s final 13 yards of the game came on a fake punt to get a first down and seal the victory.
