The Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators is a global organization that represents children’s book writers and illustrators. They will have a presence at the Boerne Book Festival on Oct. 5 featuring authors from our area and beyond.
The Book Fairy is part of this organization and she’s at our festival each year dressed to entertain the kids and always creates fun activities for them.
Marybell and Eric Morse are area authors who have a new bilingual picture book titled, “Lina the Javelina.” It’s awfully cute, and you can find their book and other inspiring titles for kids available at the SCBWI tent.
Jessica Knight is the regional adviser for the Southwest Chapter of the SCBWI and will be on hand to field any questions about the organization and what they do.
Our main children’s program at the festival will be at 11 a.m. and features authors Diana López and Carmen Tafolla, both having been President of the Texas Institute of Letters with many other accolades to their names.
Tafolla was the Texas Poet Laureate in 2015. Her latest book for kids is “Warrior Girl,” available in Spanish and English, for grades five and six. The book received the Tomás Rivera Mexican American Children’s Book Award for 2024.
The latest series for kids by López is “Los Monstruo.” The first book in the series is on the Lone Star Reading List with the Texas Library Association. These books are for grades three through seven. López also has a fun picture book on Selena, which is very popular and available in Spanish and English: “Sing with Me: The Story of Selena Quintanilla.” Stop by Main Plaza on Oct. 5 to meet both authors and join their program.
