BOERNE — The Omega Retreat Center at the Benedictine Sisters of Boerne monastery will close at the end of June 2025.
“It is with heavy hearts that the Benedictine Sisters of Boerne announce the closing of their Omega Retreat Center at the end of June 2025,” said Sister Bernadine Reyes, OSB, Prioress.
“Our community’s decision to close the retreat center was not an easy one.”
Since 1982, Omega has been an oasis for retreat groups and individuals seeking quiet space and time away from the busyness of life since 1982. The first ACTS Retreat was held at Omega in 1987.
The retreat center closed when the Covid pandemic hit Boerne in the spring of 2020. The center struggled to resume operations — even now the center does not operate at full capacity.
The resulting loss of revenue created a hardship, and the high cost of maintaining the retreat facilities became a financial burden for the Sisters.
“Despite the tremendous efforts of our dedicated staff, we can no longer sustain Omega,” said Sister Bernadine. “We are grateful we could provide space for spiritual renewal for so many over the past forty-two years.”
Prior to becoming the Omega Retreat Center, the facility served as the Sisters’ Monastery, residence for the professed Sisters and young women in discernment, and dormitory for St. Albert Hall Boarding School.
Previously, the property and buildings were owned by the Albert Kronkosky family until it was purchased by the Sisters in 1962.
The Sisters will continue to operate their other Boerne ministries, the Health and Wholeness Center and Sisters’ Attic Thrift Store, as well as their Caridad de Corazόn border ministry in Eagle Pass and Corporate Responsibility ministry in San Antonio.
