Charles Conrad Grady

March 29, 1934 – April 3, 2022

Charles, “Charlie,” “Connie,” “CC” Conrad Grady, 88, passed away Sunday, April 3, surrounded by his loving family.

Charlie was born on March 29, 1934, in Seminary, Mississippi, to Oscar and Ada Grady and spent most of his childhood in Mississippi. After skipping two grades in school and graduating from Sumrall High School at the young age of 16, he began managing his brother’s service station, performing duties such as servicing customer’s cars and trucks with gasoline, oil, air and water as well as washing and polishing their vehicles. Soon after, he enlisted in the Navy in 1953, where he proudly served his country and was also a part-time photographer.

On June 15, 1958, he married the love of his life, Wanda Smith, and they spent almost 60 years together. After being honorably discharged in 1961, Charlie attended night school at The University of Southern Mississippi, earning a degree in business. He began his career with Gulf Oil working his way into management. In the 1990s Charlie spearheaded the Chevron Pipeline Project in Kazakhstan as the director of purchasing. He ended his career as a consultant for multiple companies in the oil and gas industry.

Charlie’s employment provided an opportunity to travel through Europe and the Caribbean, including Ireland, London, Budapest, Spain, Germany, Jamaica, Aruba and Trinidad. They lived in numerous locations throughout the United States, including Hattiesburg, Mississippi; Buras, Louisiana; Toledo, Ohio; Cincinnati, Ohio; Port Neches, Texas; Houston, Texas; and Beaumont, Texas, before settling in the beautiful Texas Hill Country in Fair Oaks Ranch.

Charlie was the kindest and most selfless individual, always doing for others. His blue eyes would sparkle whenever he interacted with anyone. He loved his family fiercely and anyone he met became a member of his family. He had a deep love for Jesus, his church, his Bible study and the friends he created there. He enjoyed making homemade peach ice cream and drinking strawberry milkshakes. He loved crawfish boils, fried catfish and his cowboy hats.

Charlie is survived by his daughter, Lisa Newburn, her husband, Tommy, and granddaughter Madison Newburn, all of Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, great-nieces and nephews, along with a host of wonderful loving friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda, his parents and seven brothers and sisters.

The family encourages you to share a story or favorite memory at the celebration of his life at a memorial service on Saturday, April 9, 2022, at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Boerne, Texas.
