Emilia Garcia Valdez

Emilia Garcia Valdez, 93, of Boerne, went to meet our Father in Heaven on Saturday, April 2, 2022. She leaves us with so many good memories and life lessons that we will carry for the rest of our lives. She created nine lives that have in turn created 24 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Alfred R. Valdez; her partner, Henry Lopez; her parents, Venancia and Juan Garcia; her brother, Lonjino Garcia; and her sisters, Connie Sotello, Ramona Olgine, Annie Montes and Rosie Mendoza.

Our mother didn’t work or get paid by the hour for many years while she was raising her children, nephews, nieces, grandchildren or any other child who came to her and my father’s home who needed her. She had no monetary wealth, but what she did have was a wealth of knowledge about life and what happens after. That made her the wealthiest woman one would ever know.

Her knowledge and unyielding faith in our Lord Jesus is what has sustained this family during these past few years. Her body may have failed her, but her faith in Jesus never did.

We are one of the fortunate few families that have the privilege of knowing our mother was cared for with love and compassion by someone who would never be unkind or mistreat her. Her granddaughter, Heather Traylor, and her son, Rankin, made sure Granny was safe and sound in her home. That kind of love and compassion cannot be bought; it has to be created in the soul. This family owes a debt of gratitude to my sister and brother-in-law for creating such a beautiful spirit, Heather. Our cup runneth over with love and thanks for taking such good care of your grandma. I promise you with all the lumber you have sent to Heaven you have a mansion waiting for you.

Our mother was a well-respected member of the Old Boerne community. She has outlived almost everyone who knew her best, so it is through our voices and words she will be remembered by the ones who count most. Generation after generation, she gave birth to so much life walking this Earth today that her legacy will live as long as you say her name: Emilia.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 7, 2022, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Holt & Holt Funeral Home, with a recitation of the Rosary to begin at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held Friday, April 8, 2022, at 1 p.m. at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, with committal to follow at Boerne Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of the staff of Holt & Holt Funeral Home of Boerne. To share words of comfort with the family, please visitwww.holtfh.com.
