BOERNE — The Geneva School of Boerne, which began the school year Aug. 26 with 654 students, is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year after beginning in 1999 with 13 students.
Geneva is a classical and Christian 12-KP private school that desires to honor God in everything and teaches every subject in every grade from a biblical worldview, in line with the school’s mission statement.
Geneva leadership believes that in a rapidly changing world, the two things students most need from their education are an understanding of their place in the world and the skills to learn anything.
Geneva focuses on equipping students with the core skills needed to learn and succeed, including reading, writing, speaking, listening, understanding, thinking and creating.
The Rhetoric School serves high school students in grades 9-12. In addition to learning subjects, students learn to see the big picture of humanity and history and to find their place in it as disciples of Christ. This is training in being Christian thinkers.
Every student in the Rhetoric School signed the Honor Code at a special assembly on the first day of classes, pledging to seek to live with integrity according to the high standards of the school.
The Logic School serves students in grades 6-8, where students learn to analyze statements critically and to argue claims systematically by arranging terms and facts into arguments to prepare them to always offer a reason, and to do so respectfully.
Students in grades 7-12 compete in an athletic program with cross country, cheer, volleyball, football, soccer, swim, basketball, baseball, track and field, softball, tennis and golf. An excellent fine arts program offers art, band, guitar, jazz ensemble, music theory, praise ensemble, songwriting and vocal music.
In grades KP-5, phonics, basic math facts, problem-solving, chronological historical study, fundamental writing skills, increasing reading mastery and hands-on science exploration are emphasized. Latin is taught beginning in third grade.
The K-Prep program was created to set students on the path of a classical and Christian education.
“For 25 years, Geneva has focused on equipping students with the essential, life-long skills of reading deeply, listening respectfully, reasoning well and engaging with others thoughtfully,” new Head of School Leslie Moeller said.
Geneva has graduated 583 students, Moeller said, “who have learned to see and appreciate the truth, goodness and beauty of God’s creation. We are excited to continue to build on this foundation as we begin our next 25 years.”
