Boerne girls soccer squad headed to regional tourney this weekend

It’s hard to beat a team three times in one season, but the Lady Greyhound soccer team pulled off the feat after they defeated Canyon Lake for the third time last Thursday.

It’s hard to beat a team three times in one season, but the Lady Greyhound soccer team pulled off the feat after they defeated Canyon Lake for the third time last Thursday.

Boerne’s first two wins over the Hawks were in district play, but there was a lot more on the line when the 26-4A foes met last Thursday at Smithson Valley in the third round of the playoffs.

A berth to the Region IV-4A tournament in McAllen was a stake and the Lady Greyhounds prevailed, 2-1.

Boerne improves to 18-3-5 overall and plays Friday against Kingsville Santa Gertrudis at 10 a.m. The winner plays the winner of the Wimberley – Calallen match on Saturday for the regional title at 10 a.m.

Boerne’s two wins over Canyon Lake in district were 4-2 and 5-1 with the 5-1 victory coming not that long ago on March 8, so last Thursday’s win was the closest, but BHS got it done.

Kylie Combs put Boerne up 1-0, but the Lady Hawks tied it at 1-1 before Combs knocked in her second goal on the assist from Madeline Davis for the 2-1 advantage.

All of the goals were scored in the first half after both defenses tightened up and didn’t allow a second-half goal.
