Champion volleyball coach Kelly McDaniel had a very memorable weekend with the Charger volleyball team.
The Lady Chargers played in the Pieper Warrior Showcase where they finished second overall in the field of 16 teams and earned McDaniel her 100th career victory.
Champion won its first five matches before falling to host Pieper in the championship game. They went 5-1 at the event and stand at 12-3 overall.
Ella Coleman and Brielle Boothe were both named all- tournament selections.
The Chargers started district play Tuesday at home against Veterans Memorial.
Champion opened with a 23-25, 25-20, 25-11, win over Sotomayor and then defeated Laredo United, 25-22, 18-25, 25-20. They closed out the first day with a sweep of Judson, 27-25, 25-7.
Their 3-0 record in pool play moved the Chargers to the gold bracket where they faced Laredo Alexander and beat the Bulldogs.
The win over Alexander moved the Chargers to the semifinals where they handled Harlan, 25-21, 18-25, 25-21.
The win over the Hawks moved them to the finals against district foe Pieper. The Warriors won in two sets, 25-22, 25-16, to take the title and give Champion second place.
