Boerne ISD refines core values, statements for new school year

BOERNE — Boerne ISD established its set of “Core Values” for the 2024-25 school year — in place in an effort to connect to the vision of success for all BISD members, encompassing students, staff, families and the broader community.

Over the summer, a group of nearly 100 stakeholders representing students, parents, teachers, administrators, trustees, business partners and community members engaged in a series of three meetings to revisit, re-envision and refine the Boerne ISD Core Values.

The committee considered whether the existing core values accurately reflected the BISD experience and the values most critical to achieve the BISD mission and vision.

Kristi Schmidt, BISD board vice president and member of the core value committee, said, “I believe that collaborating and customizing our district core values sets our staff and students up for success to make decisions, build relationships, solve problems, and achieve goals that align with our high standard of excellence.

“Together,” Schmidt added, “we constructed a strong list of core values that will demonstrate what we prioritize in BISD.”

Ensuring the refined core values aligned to the existing BISD “Portrait of a Leader” and “Portrait of a Learner” was a committee priority. Each portrait illustrates the clear connection between what is valued in BISD, and how those values are represented in action.

The committee’s work resulted in a refined set of core values that capture what it means to be BISD. They are: — Every Child, Every Day. “We are committed to ensuring every student is engaged, enriched and inspired.”

— Respectful Relationships. “We build a culture of trust and compassion by actively listening to and learning from others.”

— Excellence through Integrity. “We hold ourselves and others to high standards.”

— Commitment to Service. “We are committed to leading, serving, and enriching our community.”

BISD staff were introduced to the core values during District Convocation on Aug. 2. Staff development sessions will be used to deepen understanding among campus staffers.

The goal for the first year of implementation is to ensure stakeholders can recognize and articulate the core values.
