Boerne Champion’s softball rematch with Dripping Springs turned into a pitcher’s duel Friday night when the Lady Chargers tangled with the Lady Tigers in Boerne.

Drip took their first-round meeting handily at 8-0, but Champion played much better on Friday in the second-round contest, however the Lady Tigers still won, 3-2.

Champion slips to 9-8-1 overall and is 5-5 in district. The Lady Chargers have dropped three straight in 26-5A and look to snap the skid on Tuesday when they visit Alamo Heights.

Most of the runs were scored early in Friday’s game after the Tigers took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Champion answered with two runs in the bottom half of the inning after Krista Tarver doubled to bring in Ashley Ottmers and Gabi

Vela to tie it up at 2-2.

A two-out double in the third scored a runner from first for the Tigers and put Drip ahead 3-2 and that’s where it stayed as neither team scored another run the rest of the way.

The Chargers finished with 6 hits after Tarver doubled and brought in 2 runs, Ottmers and Vela both singled and scored, while Carmen Vela, Lily Ritchie and Jaycee Bendele all singled.

Carmen Vela went all 7 innings in the circle and gave up 2 earned runs, struck out 10 and didn’t issue a walk.
