Boerne Little Leaguers move to
2-0
after beating Florida
The Boerne Little League baseball team moved to 2-0 at the Little League World Series after they defeated Florida, Monday night in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, 4-1.
Boerne plays Nevada in a battle of unbeaten teams in the U.S. semifinals Wednesday at 2 p.m. If they win that game, they advance to the U.S. championship contest Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
Monday’s game was tied 1-1 at the end of one inning, but Boerne pulled away with a 3-run third frame and took advantage of Florida’s struggles on the mound.
In the third, Boerne only had one hit, but used three wild pitches, two hit batters and two walks – one of them intentional – to score its three runs.
Julian Hurst went the distance on the mound for Boerne and pitched a great game after he fanned 10 Florida batters in six innings.
Hurst surrendered three hits and the run Florida scored was earned. If Boerne wins Wednesday, Hurst can pitch in Saturday’s game since he is required to rest four days.
Florida scored first with a single and a double, but that was in the first inning and that was their only run of the game.
Boerne answered in the bottom of the first after Gray Collins was hit by a pitch and scored on a Cooper Hastings RBI.
It stayed knotted at 1-1 until Boerne went ahead for good in the third. Hurst, Kaleb Christ and Ben Burkhart all scored in the third after Hurst was intentionally walked, Christ was walked and Burkhart was hit by a pitch.
Hastings, Jett Matthews and Doc Mogford recorded Boerne’s three hits in the game.
