Organizers of the first-ever Das Festival of Kendall made the rounds Aug. 15, presenting checks to four area charitable organizations with proceeds from the two-day event in June.
Representatives from the Comfort Golden Age Center, Comfort Table and Food Pantry, Kendall County Women’s Shelter and Heartland Children’s Home welcomed the $2,000 oversized checks.
“We had the ability to pull off this year’s festival,” said organizer Veronica Brown. “Being able to hand out these charitable donation checks the past two days have been such a great experience.”
The first Das Festival sought to rekindle much of the distinct German flavor lost when Berges Fest folded several years back after its decades-long run.
“These check presentations underscore Das Festival of Kendall’s commitment to honoring Kendall County’s German heritage and supporting the community through fun, exciting events that raise money for local non-profits,” Brown said.
“We had been working on this for two years, meeting once a month, trying to create this as we envisioned it,” Brown said.
With a triumphant first outing under their belts, Das Festival board members want to build on their success. Plans are being laid for a Das Festival golf tournament in mid-November to bolster the funds available following the 2025 festival.
“With this golf tournament, we hope to bring more awareness to Das Festival of Kendall and also raise enough money to give back to the community, to these four charities,” she said. “We have decided to donate to our charities for an entire fiscal year and different ones each year forthcoming that we choose.”
The Comfort Golden Age Center received funds to enhance the lives of older and aging adults in the community. The center’s mission is to enrich the well-being and social interaction of its members, and this contribution will help in achieving that goal.
The Comfort Table and Food Pantry received a donation to support its mission of feeding the hungry in the Comfort area. Founded over 20 years ago by local churches, the Table and Food Pantry provides essential food assistance to people in Comfort and the surrounding areas.
The Kendall County Women’s Shelter was another recipient, receiving a donation to further its mission of providing comprehensive support, resources, and shelter for survivors of domestic abuse and their pets, while also working to raise awareness about the impact and origins of domestic violence.
Heartland Children’s Home, located on 18 acres in the Texas Hill Country, provides a nurturing environment for children from birth to 18 years old, offering both specialized medical care and developmental opportunities with farm animals. The funds will help Heartland continue its vital work in fostering the well-being of these children.
