BHS boys soccer at Mules tournament

The Boerne High boys soccer team opened the season last weekend at the Alamo Heights Tournament.

The Boerne High boys soccer team opened the season last weekend at the Alamo Heights Tournament.

BHS, the defending 4A state champs, posted a 1-2 record at the event. They are home Tuesday to face Antonian. Boerne will also be at home Friday to host South San.

Boerne’s only win at the tourney came in its opener last Thursday against Pieper, 4-1.

Sam Theiss led the Greyhound with 2 goals, while Landon Murphy and Justin Moore both added single goals.

Up next, the Hounds suffered a 4-1 loss to Fort Worth Arlington Heights on Friday afternoon.

Sam Theiss recorded the team’s only goal on a penalty kick.

BHS returned to Alamo Heights on Saturday and played the host Mules.

Boerne coach Michael Strong was facing his alma mater and the Mules were able to defeat the Greyhounds, 3-1.

Sam Theiss made it three straight games with a goal and had Boerne’s only score in the game on an unassisted goal.

Strong said his team gave a great effort despite a 1-2 showing.

“It was a rough weekend (because) we are battling through injuries but the boys played hard and competed,” he said.
