CELEBRATING THE ARTS
In the “Artist Spotlight” is Robert Pankey. Bob paints what he loves; animals, musicians and landscapes. He expresses emotion and a personal interpretation of the subject through use of color, not overthinking or overworking his canvas.
He is challenged in painting wildlife to explore their essence through bright colors and exaggerated brush strokes.
It has been observed that when visitors come to the gallery and first encounter Bob’s work, they are taken by the vivid colors, and then pause, face-to-face with the animal. It is almost as if the subject has been stopped in his tracks to take a good look at you, the viewer, for a moment as well.
Bob began his commercial artist career while simultaneously pursuing his college degree. He has always been a creative — selling his ink prints at Texas A&M pubs to creating his own homemade wine.
Although he originally worked with graphite and ink, he began to explore the world of color after a nudge from his wife and artist, Jill, and years of travel.
