Back to school: It’s safety first

BEHIND THE BADGE

Welcome back students.

Boerne ISD schools start back up on Monday, so we want to take a moment to remind everyone of what the first few days of school will be like.

• Be prepared to see school buses driving around and making frequent stops.

• Expect an influx of traffic at all our schools.

• Anticipate seeing additional officers.

It will begin with the elementary school students from 7-7:30 a.m. These campuses will be filled with parents, grandparents, families and friends who want to walk their eager students into their schools and classrooms.

Then it will be the middle schools and high schools turn, as there will be a large influx of vehicles from parents dropping off their students and high schoolers driving to school until about 8:30 a.m.

Please be patient with the stacking and wait times at all our campuses, to include the nearby areas. School crossing guards will be on hand to help cross students and parents who walk. Our friendly law enforcement officers will be out monitoring the school zones.

Please do not speed or be in a rush. We want everyone to enjoy the first day of school and the new school year.

Expect the same slowdowns when school gets out in the afternoon. Give yourself extra time in the morning and afternoon and please watch out for pedestrian traffic.

We will have extra Boerne police officers assisting at the schools, monitoring school zones and taking calls. Drivers, please slow down, be alert and stay off the phones.

Remember, in Texas you cannot use any handheld device in your vehicle while in a school zone. This includes holding your phone in one hand, with the speaker on, and the other on the steering wheel. If caught you could be cited. Play it safe and just keep your phone away.

I wish everyone a happy and safe school year. To our first-time students: welcome, and to the Senior Class of 2025, enjoy your last school year. Remember, you not only represent yourself and your parents, but you represent the Boerne community.

Also, good luck to the Boerne Little League team as they represent our community and state at the Little League World Series in Williamsport.

God Bless you all and stay safe Boerne.

IN TEXAS YOU CANNOT USE ANY HANDHELD DEVICE IN YOUR VEHICLE WHILE IN A SCHOOL ZONE. IF CAUGHT YOU COULD BE CITED.
