PURPLE HEART RECOGNITION: The Purple Heart Project honors area Purple Heart recipients in a ceremony from 10-11 a.m. at Veterans Plaza, 801 S. Main St. Event includes presentation of colors by the local VFW, the National Anthem, a performance by a St. Peter’s Group Choir, a presentation of the Purple Heart City proclamation by the Military Order of the Purple Heart, and a beautiful Purple Heart custom flag to be presented to the mayor of Boerne.

BOERNE AREA DEMOCRATS will host guest speaker Dr. Hector Garcia, a researcher and clinical psychologist specializing in the treatment of combat-related post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) during a noon meeting at the Longhorn Cafe, 369 S. Esser Road.
THE BOERNE CHAMBER will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 1:30 p.m. for Pet Styling by Mimi, 1028 N. Main St.

org. SISTERDALE VFD ANNUAL barbecue and dance fundraiser at the station, 1207 Sisterdale Road (12 miles north of Boerne on FM 1376). Barbecue dinner runs 5-9 p.m., bucket raffle is set for 9 p.m., and the Ricky Adams Band plays for the dance 8 p.m.-1 a.m. Accepting donations at the door. Funds help purchase safety gear, training, firefighting equipment and fire apparatus replacement and maintenance and facility repairs and upgrades.
INSPIRATION GARDEN FALL Series opening session is 10-10:30 a.m. during the second and fourth weekends of the Farmers Market at Herff Farm, 33 Herff Road. The free mini workshops are led by organic gardening experts. This session will focus on gadgets and gizmos in the garden.

KENDALL COUNTY HISTORICAL Commission presents “Early Texas Botanists of the 19th Century” at 6 p.m. at the Patrick Heath Public Library, 451 N. Main St. Lonnie Childs, who serves on the Gillespie County Historical Society board of directors, will take attendees on a journey back to the days of the settlement of the Hill Country. ADULT NIGHT HIKE at Cibolo Nature Center beginning at 8 p.m. at the nature center, 140 City Park Road in Boerne. Come hike the trails at sunset. Night hikes for adults are longer hikes, using unfamiliar trails. You can expect to spend time without flashlights in hopes of viewing nocturnal wildlife. The cost is $15 per adult.
