Boerne dentist nominated for Texas dental award

AUSTIN — Anthony L. Jaramillo, DDS, of Boerne has been nominated by the San Antonio Academy of General Dentistry ( San Antonio AGD) for the Texas Academy of General Dentistry’s “Texas New Dentist of the Year” award.

This award is considered the most prestigious honor a new Texas dentist can earn. Jaramillo is one of only nine dentists nominated for this year’s award.

He and the other nominees will be honored at the Texas Academy Awards Sept. 20. Each nominee will be recognized and will receive an engraved plaque. The Texas Academy Awards will conclude with the announcement of the 2024 Texas New Dentist of the Year.

“Earning a nomination for the New Dentist of the Year award is a prestigious honor,” said Dr. Alex Gonzalez, Texas AGD president. “It singles out a remarkable group of young dentists whose talent, dedication, and innovative spirit promise a bright future for our profession. Congratulations to each of them.”

Jaramillo, originally from Portland, Texas, located in the Coastal Bend, attended Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi for his undergraduate studies in biomedical science. He then received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio where he graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2021 with a Distinction in Dental Education.

He was an active member of many dental school groups and is an active member of several local, state and national dental organizations, including as a board member of the San Antonio AGD and director of the San Antonio Fellowship Exchange.

Jaramillo also volunteers with Texas Mission of Mercy and Miles for Smiles. When Dr. Jaramillo isn’t actively contributing to the dental profession, he has been active with the Boy Scouts of America, St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, and enjoys league tennis at Fair Oaks Ranch Country Club.

In his spare time, he also loves to barbecue, go fishing, play soccer or just enjoy a good movie. The Texas Academy of General Dentistry’s mission is to help general dentists succeed.

It is the only association that exclusively represents the needs and interests of general dentists who are the primary care providers for patients of all ages and are responsible for the diagnosis, treatment, management and overall coordination of services related to patients’ oral health needs.
