Our new nominee

PROGRESSIVE VIEWS

The Kendall County Democratic Party (KCDP) condemns the recent political violence and encourages all volunteers, voters and politicians to engage in constructive dialogue in the weeks and months ahead.

KCDP and the Boerne Area Democrats thank President Joseph R. Biden Jr. for delivering transformative results for the American people.

President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris have overseen more than $153 billion in private commitments and over $34 billion in public investments in Texas alone, in clean energy, infrastructure and manufacturing. These investments include nearly $6 billion to provide affordable, reliable high-speed internet to everyone in Texas.

With the support and funding from the President’s CHIPS and Science Act, Samsung is investing more than $40 billion to support a semiconductor cluster in Taylor and Austin, which will create 17,000 construction jobs and 4,500 good-paying manufacturing jobs. Pulitzer Prize-winning author and historian Jon Meacham said, “(Biden’s) decision is one of the most remarkable acts of leadership in our history, an act of self-sacrifice that places him in the company of George Washington, who also stepped away from the presidency.

“To put something ahead of one’s immediate desires — to give, rather than to try to take — is perhaps the most difficult thing for any human being to do. And Mr. Biden has done just that,” Meacham said.

VP Harris said, “Joe Biden’s legacy of accomplishment over a lifetime and just over the last three and a half years is unmatched in modern history. In one term, he has already surpassed the legacy of most presidents who served two terms in office.

“Joe has stood up for democracy at home, he has stood up for democracy abroad, and he has always stood up for what he believes is right,” she said.

KCDP has endorsed Harris for president, and we look forward to advancing policies that continue to benefit the middle and working class.

The job experience and background of Vice President Harris make her supremely qualified to run for president. As VP, she has led the way on several domestic initiatives and has met with over 150 world leaders to strengthen critical global alliances. She was a U.S. senator (and served as its president), and served as the elected attorney general of California and elected district attorney of San Francisco.

From the perspective of a county chairman and a delegate to the Democratic National Convention (DNC), I have seen first-hand how this momentous decision has re-energized volunteers and voters alike.

As of mid-week, VP Harris has raised over $250 million for her campaign and received the endorsement of most major Democratic leaders. Delegates across the country have rallied around the vice president, and she has already received commitments from enough delegates to secure the nomination.

The DNC Rules Committee was set to meet to establish the rules by which we officially choose Harris to be our Democratic nominee. I’m thrilled and honored to represent Kendall County (and Congressional District 21) on the national stage at the DNC, where we will celebrate and nominate a highly qualified female candidate of color for president.

This news has brought a new sense of solidarity to KCDP. One of my precinct chairs said, “Talking to the people in my precinct, there is a renewed energy. This was a great decision by Biden and the party, and I am now more confident than ever of victory for Democrats in 2024.”

This election is much more than the presidential race, though. Kendall voters will have 16 important state and local races to consider as well, including U.S. Senator, U.S. Congress District 21, Texas Senate District 25, Texas House District 19, State Board of Education District 10 and judicial races. You can find out more about our Democratic candidates on our website, www.kcdems.us.

KCDP volunteers are energized and ready to engage with voters about this fall’s election and the candidates who will work to ensure a better future for us all. Vamonos — Let’s go!
