Library basks in summer success

Library basks in summer success

Summer session success

Summer is drawing to a close, but the youth department is ecstatic to announce the raging success of the summer programs.

Crowds of families flocked to the library this summer to get out of the heat, check out books and other fun materials, and attend some exciting programs.

We kicked off the summer with Mr. Twisty Art and about 200 attendees ready to begin their summer adventure. Our summer reading challenge was popular with young readers, and we were in disbelief after handing out 350 passports and challenge sheets to participants by the end of the first week.

Each week, little readers came to drop off their finished challenge sheets with their fingers crossed in hopes that they would be a lucky drawing winner. We picked two challenge winners each week and 14 children went home with fabulous prizes from our display case full of toys.

Our most popular program this summer, Tail Trails, drew parents and their little ones as they lined up patiently waiting for their special moment to meet and cuddle with some friendly animals in by our friends at Happy Tails Mobile Petting Zoo each week.

Summer came to a close this year with a festive celebration of Christmas in July, our closing party theme. Kids gathered to sing and dance with Mr. Will, our fabulous performer, meet with Santa, munch on Christmas cookies and receive a free book as an early Christmas present.

We may be mourning the loss of summer, but we can’t wait to begin programs again in September.

Youth Department: On break in August

This August, the Youth Department will take a sleeper month to begin preparing for our school-year program line-up. All regular weekly programs will be put on hold. Programs will begin again starting Sept. 9.

Saturday Storytimes over at Herff Farms

While taking a break from weekly programs, we hope you can join us for some family fun on the second and third Saturday of August at the Herff Farmers Market.

Meet Mrs. Constance at the farms for a Bilingual Storytime at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 10. Come for stories, songs, and a craft with the perfect summer theme popsicles or paletas.

We will have another Storytime at Herff Farms on August 17, beginning at 10:30 a.m., celebrating Smokey the Bear for his 80th birthday. Come celebrate Smokey with stories and songs as well as a special treat at the end.

Jr. LOT check-out ready

We are so excited to announce a new addition to our Youth library collection. Boerne library card holders can now check out items from our newly established Junior Library of Things or Jr. LOT.

The Jr. LOT is all about offering items beyond books to patrons. The Jr. LOT focuses on entertaining and educational items children and parents may want to try out.

The stars of our collection include multiple Toniebox sets with different themes. A Toniebox is a new and innovative audio player designed for kids 3 years and older that is great for bedtime stories, music and education.

A Toniebox provides the opportunity for a screenfree listening experience that inspires your kids’ imagination. What’s more, they offer an easy-to-use design that even the youngest children can operate independently.

We have several Toniebox sets with your children’s favorite characters including princesses, Paw Patrol, Disney and Pixar characters, National Geographic, and more. Come check out all we have to offer in the Junior Library of Things.

For more, visit our website at Boernelibrary.org, call the library at 830-2493053, or stop by the library and speak with a staff member.

Thank you all for an adventurous summer. We can’t wait to see you again at the library.
