Hinojosa accepts position in hometown
Boerne’s Champion High School begins the 2024-25 school year Aug. 12 with an interim principal at the helm as its previous leader leaves for a job in his hometown.
Champion Principal Dr. Beto Hinojosa accepted the chief administrative officer position in the Sharyland School District in Mission, Texas, where he graduated as a member of the Sharyland High School Class of 2001.
BISD Chief Administrative Officer John O’Hare will serve as Champion’s interim principal until a replacement is hired.
In a July 22 letter to Champion parents, Hinojosa announced his departure.
“Although I had not envisioned exploring a position outside of Boerne, as I truly enjoy and value my role as principal at Champion, an opportunity was presented last week,” said Hinojosa, Champion principal for the past two years.
“I interviewed for the position of chief administrative officer at Sharyland ISD and was selected for the role with the board of trustees approving the recommendation this evening,” he said.
Hinojosa, principal at Champion for the past two years, was a BISD employee for 13 years, having served as principal at Voss Middle School when it first opened its doors in 2019.
“Relocating to the valley presents a unique chance to be closer to family,” he said, “which has become increasingly important for us at this stage in our lives. Our three children, 3, 4 and 10, will greatly benefit from being near family.”
Boerne Superintendent Dr. Kristen Craft followed Hinojosa’s letter with one of her own, thanking Hinojosa for his years with Boerne and announcing O’Hare’s selection as the interim chief.
“We are equally grateful for Dr. Hinojosa’s leadership at Champion High School and thankful for the strong team he has assembled over these many years to consistently deliver strong results in every area for our students and families,’ Craft said.
“As CAO, Dr. O’Hare supervises our campuses and supports our leaders. As our principal supervisor, he holds a deep understanding of the culture and expectations at each of our schools,” Craft said, adding, “When asked to take on this additional responsibility, he answered with one word, “Absolutely.’” O’Hare has experience as a secondary campus principal. In his previous school districts, he held principal and interim principal roles at the high school and middle school levels.
He will also lead the search for the next principal.
“He will provide staff, students and parents an opportunity to provide feedback to identify the traits, characteristics, and skillset of the next leader to ensure the culture of excellence continues at CHS,” Craft said.
The principal position is posted on the Boerne ISD website, listing Aug. 9 as the application deadline. The position includes 226 days of service with a salary range from $457.21 to $644.59, depending on experience, among other factors.
“We are extremely excited for Dr. Hinojosa and his family as he returns to his hometown as chief administrative officer at Sharyland ISD,” Bryan Benway, BISD communications director, said.
“We thank him for his 13 years of exceptional service to the Boerne ISD community. He is a wonderful educator but an even better person,” Benway added. “We wish him and his family all the best in the future.”
