Century-old bible found in church archives

Kelly Skovbjerg, left, former executive director of the Patrick Heath Public Library, Kathryn Adam-Hurst, member of the Kendall County Historical Commission and Genealogical Society of Kendall County, join Kimberly Burke, senior pastor of First United Methodist Church of Boerne, in examining an 1884 alter bible found in the church archives. The bible was donated to FUMC in 1888 by George Alfred Harrison. Harrison volunteered for the 90th NY Infantry (Union army) when he was less than 14 years old and served more than four years. He settled in Boerne and for 16 years was an agent for the San Antonio Daily Express News in Boerne and Kerrville. FUMC will celebrate its 150th anniversary in 2025. Courtesy photo
