BOERNE — Boerne Community Theatre is hosting auditions Aug. 10-11 for its upcoming annual talent show and fundraiser “Hill Country’s Got Talent,” set for Oct. 5.
Auditioners of all ages, both youth and adult, are cordially invited to audition and showcase talents of all varieties.
The Oct. 5 event will feature individual and group talent, silent auction “goodies” and delicious dining as contestants compete for cash prizes.
BCT’s “Hill Country’s Got Talent” coordinator Dara Hinshaw, a University of California-Irvine alumna, said the talent show is an important annual fundraiser for the theater group’s operations.
“It is also a fun, family- friendly community event where we celebrate theatre and art, and all funds raised go to the maintenance of the theater as well as our adult, teen and children’s annual programs,” Hinshaw said. The contest is divided into two categories — youth up to 17 years old, and adults 18 and over. The first- place winner in each category will receive $500, second- place winners will receive $250 and third-place winners will receive $100.
Three judges will decide the top three winners in each category. Much like on TV favorite “ American Idol,” “Hill Country’s Got Talent” also features a “fan favorite” selection where audience members can vote with their dollars, and the winning contestant will receive a “fan favorite” trophy.
This year’s judges include Kendall County 451st District Court Judge Kirsten Cohoon, who has a background in music; nationally booked emcee, voice talent, magician and illusionist Philip Chancellor; and actor Jonathan Breck, best known for his role as the Creeper in 2001 horror film “ Jeepers Creepers.”
Types of talent represented vary widely, Hinshaw added. Previous years have seen magicians, ventriloquists, instrumentalists, singers, singer-songwriters, karate teams, comedians and dancers perform and prevail.
Auditions will be held in the BCT Academy building at 113 S. Plant St. in Boerne, behind the theater.
Dinner and dessert are included in ticket prices to attend the Oct. 5 event, Hinshaw said, and early bird pricing of $30 for adults and $15 for children under 12 is available through Sept. 20.
“It’s a fun night of family entertainment and inclusion of all ages,” she said. “Everyone can donate — any amount, it all adds up — or win in the raffle. We rely on these funds to continue to bring live theater, classes and camps to our community.”
