The planned power cutoff to 1,300 homes in Fair Oaks Ranch this week has been postponed.
Dominique Ramos, communications specialist with CPS Energy, said the planned power interruptions will not occur Monday and Wednesday, as originally scheduled.
Ramos, in a statement to the Boerne Star Saturday afternoon, said the company will stay in contact with the city and its customers so they can plan accordingly.
"The planned outage work for the TxDOT project in Fair Oaks Ranch that was scheduled to take place the evenings of Monday, July 15 and Wednesday, July 17 will be postponed to a later date," Ramos said, "so we can continue working with TxDOT and Fair Oaks Ranch to explore alternative solutions to find the most efficient outage plan."
Originally, about 1,300 homes in Fair Oaks Ranch being served by CPS Energy faced a power cutoff late Monday and Wednesday night as a TxDOT construction project will interrupt power to those homes.
Greg Maxton, Fair Oaks Ranch mayor, Friday said the Cibolo Creek bridge on FM 3351 is being widened, and the outage was designed to allow for relocation of power lines in the construction area.
“This is for reconnecting to the new power lines around the bridge expansion project,” Maxton said.
Power was to be shut off between 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. on both days to the 1,300 CPS Energy customers in the city.
The mayor said the city has been aware of the pending power disconnect for several weeks. “We’ve known this was coming and have had time to prepare our residents,” he said. “But we didn’t know the exact date and time until about a week ago.”
Once the dates were announced, the city set out to alert its residents.
“Regroup (Mass Notifications) is an emergency notification system the city utilizes. They send out robocalls, texts and emails to all the residents in the affected area,” he added.
Maxton said one of the city’s main concerns is residents who have medical issues and may need continued electricity through the night.
He said the city has a list of those residents and had begun checking with them, to make sure they have options available to them.
The power outage could possibly have affected city utilities. He said the city will make sure its water and wastewater utility capabilities are still functional during the time frames, with backup generators in place and operational.
The Fair Oaks Ranch population is scattered among three counties, Bexar, Comal and Kendall. Kendall County residents are served by Pedernales Electric Cooperative and will not be affected by the shut-off to resident in Comal and Bexar counties.
“This is the CPS in Comal County. All the Fair Oaks Ranch residents who live in Comal County will be impacted,” he added, prior to Saturday's postponement.
