U.S. must remain in NATO despite Rep. Roy’s vote
Editor, Early in June Americans celebrated one of the most important military victories in the world, D-Day. We remember D-Day every year and honor the fallen heroes who sacrificed to protect our freedom.
As Nazi Germany was rolling across Europe, it became apparent that isolationism was not going to stop this brutal military regime. Nations realized they would have to band together to fight this aggression.
After victory in World War II, it became apparent that something had to be put in place to stop future military aggressors: thus, NATO was formed.
NATO is made up of European and Western nations to keep rogue nations in check and has been effective for more than 75 years U.S. Rep. Chip Roy’s vote to defund NATO is shortsighted and plays into the hands of Russia.
We have all heard that “history has a way of repeating itself.” This is also the case with Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Ukraine is not a NATO member, but If Russia is not stopped in Ukraine there is no telling how far Putin will go to expand its power. If Russia attacks a NATO member, U.S. troops will become directly involved.
What Roy fails to understand is that we must support NATO and Ukraine now, or face much larger problems in Europe later.
