A warmer earth will change everything
Editor, It is true that the Earth has endured multiple changes, usually occurring over thousands of years, and it will survive more change in the future. Humans, maybe not so much.
When, according to a recent letter writer, the Earth was warmer 130,000 years ago and sea levels were 25 feet higher, the human population could have been only a fraction of what it is today.
It is a reality that glaciers are currently melting at an accelerated rate. If the sea level rises 25 feet again, many of today’s islands and coastlines will be submerged. Millions of people will be displaced, leading to greater population density, reduced cropland, less food and more human conflict.
To protect our future generations, we should attempt to do anything science tells us that will help slow global warming.
If you are going to ignore science and stick your head in the sand, better make sure you’re not on a beach.
