Boerne ISD teachers will receive a 1.5% salary increase for the 2024-25 school year after action taken by the district board of trustees.
At their June 19 meeting, the Boerne trustees voted to adopt the pay increase that included boosts of 2.5% for the district’s paraprofessionals and auxiliary staff.
“I appreciate the fact that we’re giving out a bigger raise to our auxiliary workers because they are the lowest-paid folks,” Board Trustee Rich Sena said. “It’s not huge, but every little bit helps. It’s a sign that we value them and that’s important.”
The teacher pay raise means the district’s base pay rate will be $55,283 for the coming year.
District figures show 737 teachers and 174 professionals will receive the 1.5%, while 243 paraprofessionals and 259 auxiliary employees get the 2.5% Chief Financial Officer Wesley Scott ran the district through the budget for the coming year, with comparisons drawn to the year just concluded.
“The district philosophy is to underestimate revenue and overestimate expenditures, budgetarily,” Scott said. “That’s good practice. The numbers you see here are evidence of that.”
In addition, the district will contribute over $3.8 million to health insurance premium benefits for the 2024-25 school year. Deficit budgeting, within reasonable amounts, using estimating revenues and overestimating expenditures is common practice, Scott said.
“As we’re wrapping up this year, it is extremely likely that we won’t actually incur a deficit,” he said, “and that should give the board and the public comfort going into this fiscal year.”
