The dog days of Texas summer heat are upon us. This is a great opportunity to imbibe some cool refreshing wines.
A good rosé wine is always welcome any time of the year, but this one is a favorite of mine. This affordable award-winning jewel hails from my native home country. Introducing Chäteau Goudichaud Rosé, from Graves de Vayres, a subregion of the famed greater Bordeaux region.
Don’t let its soft pink hues fool you. Here’s a wine that’s both serious and fun as well as versatile.
Crafted from 100% Cabernet Franc, it has received numerous accolades, including having been named “Favorite Bordeaux Rosé Selection,” as well as having received a respectable 87 points from Wine Enthusiast Magazine.
Whether you decide to drink it by the pool, at the beach or with food, chill a bottle or two and enjoy the soft and fragrant aromas reminiscent of wild fruits contrasting nicely with the fresh and crisp notes of white peach and strawberries on the palate.
Delicious and refreshing on its own, it’s an excellent pairing with white meats as well as with sushi.
For those interested in a bit of history, the estate is owned by my friend, winemaker Yves Glotin. This imposing manor house dates to the 18th century. This elegant building, featured on the bottle’s label, was the work of architect Victor Louis, the architect for several other notable buildings, such as the parliament of Guyenne.
The domain also was the summer residence of the archbishop of Bordeaux for several years.
The main building is flanked by two symmetrical wings. The West wing is the barrel storage room where the wine is aged, while the East wing hosts various sheds and habitations for winery workers.
A mill, sheepfolds and miscellaneous farm buildings make up the rest of the structures available for various uses.
