Greyhounds finish third in Lone Star Cup

The Greyhounds have finished third in this year’s UIL 4A Lone Star Cup standings with 93 points.

Canyon Randle (117) won the 2023-24 4A Lone Star Cup and Canyon (94) edged Boerne High by a point for second in the 4A rankings.

Last year Boerne High placed second in the final standings with 105 points for their highest finish in school history. Canyon Randle won it last year as well and tallied 137 points.

A school earns points in various UIL activities – mostly athletics – throughout the school year and a winner is declared after the final UIL activity, the baseball playoffs.

Points are earned in Team Tennis, Cross Country, Marching Band, Military Marching Band, Volleyball, Robotics BEST, Football, Congress, Spirit, Swimming & Diving, Wrestling, Mariachi, Film, Basketball, Robotics FIRST, Soccer, Academics, One-Act Play, Theatrical Design, Track & Field, Golf, Tennis, Softball and Baseball.

A district title and a playoff berth are worth two points each and each postseason victory is worth two points for each round advanced, while a state title picks up additional points for each school.

The Greyhounds had the boys and girls soccer teams reach the state tournament where both programs earned silver after finishing second. The BHS girls basketball team also played at this year’s state tourney and returned to Boerne with bronze medals.

Boerne Champion

Boerne Champion didn’t finish in the top 25 in this year’s 5A standings, but did win the 2023-24 Dan Cook Cup as the best all-around athletic program in the greater San Antonio area.

The Chargers have a UIL Lone Star Cup championship under their belt that they won for the 2010-2011 school year.

Champion was a 4A school during the 10-11 school year when 5A was the largest classification in the state.
