Female Athlete of the Year
Geneva School of Boerne’s Kate Friesenhahn was recently named the 2023-24 TAPPS 4A Female Athlete of the Year.
Friesenhahn just wrapped up her junior year at Geneva where she is a five-sport athlete. She competed in soccer, volleyball – both indoor and sand – golf and softball.
Athletes are nominated by their TAPPS member schools and a winner is selected on the boys and girls side in the six different classifications by members of TAPPS Leadership.
Friesenhahn said she had no idea that her name had even been submitted for the award.
“I did not know that I had been nominated until I won the award, which was super exciting,” she said. “Of all the people I’ve gotten to compete and play with, it’s crazy that I got chosen.”
Friesenhahn helped lead the Geneva girls soccer team to a state runner-up appearance and was named to the TAPPS All-State Tournament Team, along with being picked as a First Team All-State selection.
The rising senior said she enjoys playing softball the most but really hopes the soccer team is able to finish what they started during this past school year.
“I would really like to walk away with a state title in soccer,” she said. “We were state runner-up this year, so next year we want to take it.”
In sand volleyball, Friesenhahn was a state champion in the Venice (Champion) Bracket and landed on the academic all-state indoor volleyball team.
In softball, Friesenhahn was an all-state selection during the 202223 season.
Friesenhahn also suited up for the golf team and was a regional and state qualifier this year.
She not only plays sports but is involved with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the National Honor Society, orchestra and cinematography.
Outside of school, Friesenhahn likes to play pickleball and is involved with her church, all while maintaining a 3.88 grade point average.
With all of her activities, Friesenhahn turns in some long days but prefers it that way.
“I like to stay busy, when I stay busy I’m the most productive,” she said. “It’s all worth it.”
After high school, Friesenhahn plans to study education and hopes to be a teacher.
Geneva School of Boerne’s Kate Friesenhahn was recently named the TAPPS 4A Girls Athlete of the Year for the 2023-24 school year. Friesenhahn said she wasn’t even aware that she had been nominated for the award by Interim Geneva Athletic Director Trent Nesmith (right).
