Leachman competes in two races as she prepares for U.S. Olympic trials

Boerne Champion runner placed 2nd at Nike Outdoor Nationals in one-mile race

To help her prepare for this weekend’s U.S. Olympic Trials, Champion’s Elizabeth Leachman competed in two different races last week.

Leachman raced in the Girls 1-mile Championship at the Nike Outdoor Nationals on Saturday at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.

Leachman posted a 4:44.06 for second place to set a personal record, while Randolph’s Sophia Bendet placed third, just behind Leachman with a 4:44.16.

A few days before that, Leachman also ran at the Brooks PR Invitational and competed in the 3,200-meter race where she finished fourth with a 9:48.51.

Leachman returns to Hayward Park this Friday to compete in the women’s 5K and a chance for a spot on the U.S. Olympic Team.

She’ll race at 8:22 p.m. on Friday and the trials are scheduled to be carried by NBC.

There will be two heats and If she advances out of her heat, she’ll race Monday at 9:09 p.m. in the finals.

The top five from each heat advance, plus the next six fastest times also move to the finals for a total of 16 runners in the finals.

Only the top three finishers in the race will make this year’s Olympic team from the field of 30.
