Geneva faculty members receive Green Enrichment awards

BOERNE — Geneva School of Boerne presented three full- time classroom teachers with the new Philip and Barbara Green Scholarship for Faculty Enrichment at its May 24 closing assembly.

The Greens, former Geneva grandparents and dedicated supporters of education, gave the gift to support professional development in perpetuity through their estate plans.

An anonymous donor has also come alongside the school to supplement the award this year; therefore, the expense of these experiences is fully covered by Geneva’s generous community.

Full- time classroom teachers at Geneva who have served at the school for at least three years were eligible to apply for the scholarship.

The inaugural winners are: Grammar School teacher Tonya Mowery; Logic School Humanities instructor Barbara De Vries; and Rhetoric School Bible instructor and TAPPS academic coordinator Mr. Brian Odom.

The teachers will use their scholarships to enjoy trips to England and the Netherlands for experiences tied to curricula covering King Arthur and Camelot, roots of the English-speaking world, New Testament and early Christian literature.

The application included essay questions on how the educator embodies Geneva’s “Portrait of a Geneva Teacher,” which outlines an idealized vision of what the school seeks in each faculty member.

Applying teachers were asked to select a professional development experience they hoped to be awarded and illustrate how that experience would further their professional growth and impact the learning experience of their students.
