CELEBRATING THE ARTS

Das Festival of Kendall, in the manner of Berges Festival and held during Father's Day weekend, starts with a parade Saturday at 10 a.m. down the Hill Country Mile, preceding the two-day event at Random Beer Garden at 11 Upper Cibolo Creek Road, Boerne.

Family fun includes watermelon eating contest, egg toss, blindfolded wheelbarrow races, Dachshund races, sack races and day-long stein holding contests from 1-6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Music will fill the air at Random until 10 p.m. Saturday and until 8 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is $5 for adults; children 12 and under free. It’s “cash only” at the gate.

The Kerr Arts and Cultural Center, Southwest Gourd and Fiber Fine Art Show is a beautiful exhibit featuring fine art gourds and fiber arts from some of the country's most talented artists. The show runs through June 29 at the center, 228 Earl Garrett St. in Kerrville. For details go to: www.kacckerrville. com or call 830-895-2911. Brighten your Hill Country horizon with a visit to InSight Gallery, 214 W. Main St. in Fredericksburg. InSight is housed in a beautifully restored 12,000 square-foot building dating back to 1907.

The stylish restoration provides a handsome backdrop for the representational fine artworks in a gallery environment with the ambiance of a museum. For a listing of artists, refer to www.insightgallery. com, or call 830-996-9920.

The Boerne Concert Band presents a free Independence Day concert Sunday, June 30 at 6:30 p.m. at Boerne’s Main Plaza. The Boerne Jazz Band will be featured just before the Concert Band takes the stage.

Both bands are made up of musical members from all walks of life, including middle, high school and college students, lifetime musicians, military veterans and band directors. Bring lawn chairs and enjoy some jazz and patriotic selections and help us celebrate the USA.

Find the Boerne Concert Band on Facebook @BoerneConcertBand, and on its website: www.boerneconcertband. com.

In the event of rain, the concert will be held at the Boerne High School auditorium.
