Geneva tops TMI-Episcopal in 13 innings

The Geneva School of Boerne baseball team had to put in some overtime on Tuesday when the Eagles visited TMI – Episcopal for a district contest.

The Geneva School of Boerne baseball team had to put in some overtime on Tuesday when the Eagles visited TMI – Episcopal for a district contest.

Geneva and TMI went 13 innings before a winner was decided. The Eagles scored two runs in the top of the 13th frame to break an 8-8 tie and record the 10-8 victory.

Geneva improves to 7-1-1 overall and 1-0 in district. They are at Austin Regents for another district contest Friday.

Both teams scored 3 runs in the first inning but the Panthers added 4 runs in the third for the 7-3 lead and then Geneva spent the rest of the game playing catch up.

The Eagles plated 2 in the fourth and another in the fifth and the lead was down to a run at 7-6.

In the top of the seventh, Hunter McNew singled for the Eagles and made it to second on the throw. He advanced to third on a dropped third strike and then was balked in to tie it at 7-7.

After TMI didn’t score in the bottom of the seventh it went to extra innings. Both teams scored single runs in the eighth to make it 8-8.

It stayed that way until the Eagles plated 2 runs in the top of the 13th for the 10-8 lead. In the bottom half of the frame, TMI put one runner on but that’s as close as they got and Geneva picked up the hard-earned victory.

Geneva finished with 14 hits, including 3 singles by Guy George, who scored 2 runs; George Viña drove in 2 runs and scored twice, Guy Koehler doubled and singled, walked 4 times and picked up 3 RBI; Colton Lutz doubled and scored; Luke Valdez hit 2 singles and scored; Hudson McNew knocked out 4 singles and scored a run, Ford Elizondo singled and scored twice.

Jake Robertson started and went 3 innings, Guy George pitched 6 innings and fanned 10 and George Viña threw the final 4 frames and struck out 6 and picked up the win.
