The Comfort softball team returned to its winning ways on Tuesday after the Deer hit the road and picked up a win at Ingram.
After dropping a couple of 25-3A games, Comfort bounced back on Tuesday to defeat the Lady Warriors, 11-0, in six innings.
CHS is 14-4 overall and 2-2 in district. They are off Friday and open the second round of district Monday at Lago Vista.
Tuesday’s contest was scoreless through the first three innings but the Deer broke it open with 4 runs in the fourth, followed by another in the fifth and then 6 more in the top of the sixth to kick in the mercy rule.
Emma Wardlaw went the distance on the hill and picked up the win on 69 pitches. Wardlaw only gave up 1 hit and walked just 1, while fanning 15 batters, which means only 3 of the Ingram outs were out in the field.
The Deer finished with 12 hits including a homer from Layla Castro, who also singled and drove in 2 runs. Tori Hernandez knocked out 3 singles, picked up 2 RBI and scored a run; Ashlynn Rodriguez pushed in a run and scored; Morgan Hansen doubled and singled, had an RBI and scored 3 runs; Wardlaw picked up an RBI, Katie Haffner hit 2 singles, scored once and pushed in a run; Tilly Avalos singled and scored twice, Brianna Ornelas knocked out 2 singles, recorded an RBI and scored a run, while Evenie Neri crossed home plate once.
