AUSTIN — Boerne’s Ministry of Dance sent six area dancers to compete in the May 17-19 Texas Classic, a country and swing dancing competition in Austin.
Professional dancer and instructor Bertus Stiehler led four dancers to several first-, second- and third-place awards in this United Country Western Dance Council- sanctioned event. Stiehler, MOD owner and head instructor, won the first-place “Top Teacher” award for leading dancers to the most wins overall.
Winning dancers from the Boerne area included Adria Corinne (Stiehler’s finance and fellow instructor), Catherine Gac, Kay Ravizza and Liz Cameron. The husbandand- wife team of Tom and Brenda Wertman won their division, coached by Corinne.
“Our studio is relatively new to country western dancing,” Stiehler said. “We previously concentrated on ballroom competitions. I’m grateful for the honor of receiving the Top Teacher award, which reflects the hard work of my students.”
The Ministry of Dance plans to compete this summer in other competitions including New Orleans and Nashville, leading to the world competition in Orlando later in the year.
Stiehler is a world show dance champion from South Africa with more than 15 years of experience dancing, competing, performing, producing, choreographing and teaching.
He is the owner and lead instructor of Ministry of Dance, 615 S. Main St. in Boerne. As a tribute to the history of the building, which was once a church, he named his studio the Ministry of Dance.
