A 22-year-old man succumbed to injuries shortly after being bucked off a bull during a Friday rodeo event, according to officials.
“It is with a heavy heart that we announce that the Bullrider Peter DeLuna succumbed to his injury last night,” Riding on Faith Rodeo posted on Facebook late Saturday morning. “We are deeply saddened at this time and ask that your thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.”
According to the Bandera County Sheriff’s Office, the San Antonio native was thrown off the bull and landed on his neck during May 31’s Riding on Faith Summer Rodeo Series event. Although he was able to leave the arena, he collapsed shortly after.
“Asking for prayers for one of our Bullriders,” the organizers posted on Facebook shortly after the incident.
Justice of the Peace Mike Towers pronounced the man dead at the scene.
The Riding on Faith Rodeo is currently scheduled to continue every Friday night at Mansfield Park through July 26.
