Boerne High had 14 soccer players earn all-district awards, including five that received superlatives.
Senior Brett Hettie was named the 26-4A co-MVP, junior Liam Griffiths was voted offensive MVP, senior Hudson Vickery was selected as the Defender of the Year, junior Ben Niedecken was named Goalkeeper of the Year, senior Justin Bain was named Utility Player of the year, while the Greyhounds coach Michael Strong was named Coach of the Year in 26-4A.
First-team selections for the Greyhounds include senior Elian Arreola, junior Felix Theiss, junior Austin Vecino and sophomore Gabe Sallick.
Second-team picks were senior Caleb Benchoff, sophomore Ezekiel Price, junior Kolton Fischer and senior Jake Pearson.
Junior Hudson Stevens was the lone Hound to land on the Honorable Mention list.
It was another great season for the Boerne boys soccer team. The Greyhounds didn’t lose a game until the last day of the year in the championship match at the 4A state tournament.
Boerne was 23-0 after defeating Kilgore in the state semifinals, 1-0. The Greyhounds advanced to the finals where they lost to San Elizario, 1-0, to finish the year at 23-1 and return to Boerne with silver medals.
Included in those 23 wins was a 10-0 run through district to take their district win streak to 47 straight victories.
The silver medals they earned at state this year means the Greyhounds have won two gold and a silver in the last four years at the 4A state tournament.
