Boerne Champion graduate Savannah Dupre has made a name for herself in the world of college golf by playing on the national runner-up team from St. Mary’s University.
Dupre, who just wrapped up her freshman year with the Rattlers, won a starting spot on the St. Mary’s golf team despite suffering a fractured bone in her leg early in the season.
Dupre came back from that injury to help her team earn national runner up honors in the NCAA Division II national championship match.
She and her parents, Angela and Rich Dupre, live in Tapatio Springs. Savannah, a 2023 Champion graduate, is a home course favorite of golfers and residents of Boerne and Tapatio Springs.
She was also a recipient of a scholarship from the Tapatio Springs Men’s Golf Association.
At the national tournament, St. Mary’s won two matches to advance to the finals including a win by Dupre who carded a 71 (-1) to win her match by four strokes and set the Rattlers up with the lead as she was the first back in the clubhouse.
She and her opponent from Flagler University were tied after 15 holes, but Dupre finished parpar- birdie, while Henriette Stranda finished double bogey-bogey-par to give the freshman the win.
In the semifinal match against Findley University, Dupre kept the momentum rolling through her second round of 18 holes on the day, winning by 11 strokes (73-84). The first-year college player is averaging 73.2 strokes per round over her five rounds at the Orange County National – Panther Lake Course.
Her +11 margin is the second-largest in NCAA Division II Medal Match play history, second only to a +16 by Katie Whitfield from Arkansas Tech in the 2021 quarterfinals.
The national championship tournament was played in Winter Garden, Florida with The University of Indianapolis as the eventual national champion.
Dupre had quite a high school career before graduating from Champion. Dupre helped the Lady Chargers earn bronze at the 5A state golf tournament in 2021 and she also won the Region IV-5A individual title her senior year.
