Covenant slips right into larger workspace

Covenant slips right into larger workspace

Covenant Pest Control

In 2013, Chris Webb decided to venture out on his own. After working for a pest control firm in Boerne for seven years, he made his move, and Covenant Pest Control was born.

“ We started in the garage of our house; me, my wife and a dream,” Webb said.

Covenant opened in a shop north of Boerne, next to Boerne Marina. “We had 1,500 square feet of shop. And it was great for about seven years,” he said.

“We’re a six-technician fleet. Longevity is the key, having welltrained technicians, well raised up,” Webb said. “We want guys who stay for the long-term, not just create a revolving door.

“Our focus is on customer service, and I think that’s been the success of this company,” he added.

Success led to growth, and growth led to new digs. It was in October that Webb and Covenant made the jump to the new facility at 50502 Interstate 10 West in Comfort, behind Apache Rifle on the access road. A much larger shop, 5,500 square feet worth, was the result. Leila Brown and Virginia Lozano, Covenant office staffers, said the room inside the new building no longer makes them feel like they are falling over each other, as in the tight confines of the former office.

“There’s room to work. There’s room to breathe,” Lozano said.

Adjacent to the offices is a large garage space where vehicles can be stored, worked on and prepped for a job.

The top three “pest” calls are for scorpions, termites and ants, Webb said.

“With scorpions, we’re tailoring it to the house, looking at the terrain of the house, where they’re nesting and being more proactive on the outside,” he said. In fighting ants, whether they are carpenter, fire or Argentine ants, Covenant employees fight an entire colony at once.

“We will utilize products that transfer through the whole colony, to get control of the whole colony,” he said. “We use products that have a true transfer effect. It does transfer through the whole colony.”

Termite treatment depends on the species of termites. Subterranean termites, he said, return to the soil. Drywood termites — “which,” he said, “are a huge issue in downtown Boerne” — infest the structure.

“On houses like where we are today, we are able to drill and foam-inject .... and treat right where the termites are,” he said.

Time spent on a job depends on the scope of the project and the pest to be eradicated.

“Today, it’s three guys on one job, not a very large house, a duplex ... it just depends on the scope of the job.

“Our motto is ‘Service that is set apart,’ so I think that’s really who we are,” he said. “Each guy that’s not here today, they are focusing on the needs of the everyday home.”
