SAN ANTONIO – Amber Lewis and Charles Henderson represented Boerne Champion at this year’s 5A state tennis tournament in mixed doubles at the Anne Marie Tennis Center in San Antonio.

Lewis and Henderson won the Region IV-5A title and were matched up against Brandon Cowling and Kate Delgado from Abilene Wylie in their opening round match Thursday afternoon.

Despite a strong start by Henderson and Lewis, who took the first two games, Cowling and Delgado won Thursday’s state quarterfinals match, 6-2, 6-1 and advanced to the state semifinals where they were defeated by Andrea Delgado and Sebastian Delgado of Richmond Foster.

The Delgado duo from Richmond Foster won that match and play Friday for the state title against Aaditt Rishi and Addison Rosser from Frisco Lebanon Trail.

Lewis closes out a decorated career and is the only Boerne ISD tennis player in district history to qualify for state in three different brackets.

Besides making it to state in fall team tennis, Lewis made it to state in girls singles her freshman and sophomore years in the spring and then played in girls doubles last year where she won a bronze medal with her partner Sophia Raimondo.

This year she made it to state in mixed doubles to appear at state all four years of her high school career.

Henderson is a junior for the Chargers and looks to make it back next year.
