Young men’s organization celebrates year two of service

BOERNE — The Young Men’s Service League recently held its second annual awards banquet at the Marquardt Ranch. The senior class of 2024 is its second graduating class of the Boerne Chapter.

The organization, launched by Mona George in 2020, has accumulated 12,329 volunteer hours, serving 15 philanthropies and 3,955 volunteer hours this year alone.

The Boerne chapter is made up of 89 moms and 104 young men, each required to serve 20 hours; but many of the students went above and beyond.

“Over the past year, we’ve had the privilege of serving alongside our mothers, forming lasting bonds and making a difference in the lives of those around us,” said Ethan Guerrero, Young Men’s president, Class of 2024. “From volunteering at local shelters to building homes for those in need, we’ve seen the power of our collective efforts to bring about positive change,” he added.

The Young Men’s Service League is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit national organization. Members of YMSL are moms and their teenage sons who volunteer together to serve their local communities during his four years of high school.

Service awards were given to the following, who served five additional hours: Braydon Botine, Caleb Cloutier, Thomas David, Caden Edwards, Austin Evans, Cole Fargo, Shawn George, Ethan Guerrero, Ryan Hooper, Wyatt Jedlicka, Ethan Jensen, Brenden Stoner, H. Vogt and Werner Wieboldt.

Senior Leadership awards went to Lucas David and Shawn George. Recipients of the high school awards went to Lucas David (Charger Award), Shawn George (Eagle Award), and Ethan Guerrero (Greyhound Award).

Shawn George also received the Spirit of Service award for serving the most cumulative hours. Outstanding Award recipients, with 10 or more hours over the required hours, were Lucas David and Sawyer West.

Conner McLoy received the Superior Award for serving over 20 additional hours. Christiane and Lucas David were given the philanthropy award for the mom and son duo who served the most cumulative hours together.

New officers and board members were announced followed by a reception to celebrate the seniors. For details on the Boerne chapter, contact: ymslboerne.org.
